I worked 12 hives today. I put the jacket on, but no veil or gloves. After two I was sweating, the jacket came off. I didn't have a stitch of trouble with any of them. One of them is queenless, but making a new queen.. I figured I'd get into trouble there, but they were accommodating.  Two hives got treated with OAV and they were very gentle as well..   Days like this is what makes the "other" days worth it. It is a great joy to go through the hives when the ladies are happy and thriving.

Expect a personality change in your hive as it grows enough to hoard some honey.  It will be  a sudden change, without much warning.  It will not be fun any more without your protection.  I hope you have gathered some equipment by then.  You would not venture under the lid with my populous hives unprotected a second time, yours are probably not much different.  Have fun, its a great hobby, but stay smart.  :)

P.S. As lazy did, its easy to remove excess gear, but more difficult when you are getting stung all over (added) to add more protection.  :)

Indeed!  Once they have something to protect they do get a bit more grouchy.. Like finding your wifes stash of Hard Maple candy.. she may not notice a piece missing at first... but as time passes.. watch out, she WILL get you!
