I only have regular frame rests in my boxes at the moment. When I go to 9 frame I will use the rests that have the castellations for spacing.

Oh So you have frame rests but not frame spacers but you will put 9 frame spacers in. when we built supers commercially we never made supers that needed frame rests unless it was a special request. I think frame rests were invented by someone who wanted to sell more pieces to beekeepers. When you buy a super and you find the top rabbit 7/8" or 3/4" deep you have no other choice than to install frame rests, but if you dado the rabbet at 5/8" deep you can avoid needing to buy\install them.

You are pretty much inline with my thinking Apis. Because I sell some of my stuff, the frame rests are accomadated for in the depth of the cut.
No commercials that I know of even use frame rests anymore. That said, they don't use wooden frames anymore either.

Have you ever used those castellated rests Perry?
   I had a couple deeps with them from another source.. got a pic around here somewhere of it...     I found that getting the frames OUT once they are propolised in was a royal pain.. you can no longer slide a frame in gently etc.. You cant use the hive tool to pry them apart to break the bond to the next frame, ALL you can do is pry straight up..  I found a better use for those 9 frame rests..   Screw them to a piece of wood with a handle and use them from above to space the frames on the normal rest..    Still a bit of a pain when the propolis gets heavy, but gives you a reason to scrape the rests more often.
