Bottling is done!
« on: July 20, 2014, 01:04:08 am »
We wound up bottling about 93 lbs.  I have a little more to get tomorrow.  It turned out to be a pretty good year.  I can only imagine what it would have been like had I gotten the supers on when I needed to.

That is a thing of great beauty!  Wow!  Well done, man, well done!  How many frames did you have to spin out for a haul like that?  Ted

nice, I like that colour.  How many hives is this from?

It was a total of 3 supers from 3 different hives.  One was from a swarm that came from another one of our hives.  It filled out two deeps and two supers.  One of them wasn't capped last weekend, so I am going to take a look at it today.

Same here!  Want to get supers pulled before they start packing the goldenrod in.   Almost August..  time to start thinking about treating.

I had planned on pulling the supers that I extracted last weekend, but two of the three were being filled back up.  I don't know what they are getting nectar from.  All I see blooming are the sunflowers.  Normally this time of year, we have broom weed.  But I haven't seen any of the yet.

The super that was full last weekend and partially capped is closer to being fully capped, but not close enough for me to pull it yet.

I love the muth jars.  They are great for gifts, but no one wants to buy any honey in them.  I have to pass on the additional cost of the jar when I sell a bottle.  Everyone wants the honey and they don't care what the jar looks like.

For the 1 pound Muth jars, the cost per jar was $0.30/jar more.  For the 1/2 pound Muth, it was only $0.10/jar more.
I will charge more for the Muth, but should make more per jar.

depends on your 'market' bakers and when and where sold........they are expensive with shipping.  i price accordingly, and also buy the shrink wrap for the cork tops.  i get 15 bucks for a 1 pd muth jar but target a certain customer base with these, and also at christmas.

Since that picture was taken, I bottled another 42 lbs in 1/2 lb & 1 lb jars.  I had to repackage some of the honey that was in the mason jars to fill all the orders.  Almost everyone wanted the 1 lb Muth jars.

Beer,

Congrats on your harvest, your on your way.

I sold the fool out of those 1lb Muth jars last fall. People were buying by the case. I dip mine in wax around the top.
