Retro- "Now I wouldn't expect anyone to try this at home

See, I have had these moments in my life where I 'think' i can walk up to an animal and all would be well. I can't promise I would walk past a skunk and not help it....   then I would have to take myself to a hospital to get cleaned up before I head home  :D

just catching up on this one.. Great story.  I read it to my wife, and she told me that was another reason I am not allowed to extract in our basement  :D

Dunkel, I just found and enjoyed your post thoroughly.
Only hobby beekeepers could live through an event like this and end up smiling, as you did.

Good story Dunkel, you got lucky getting the skunk out ??? When i was 10 or 11 years old i told dad and uncle bob that i seen a skunk in the barn, they said if i would grab it's tail and lift it off the ground quick it couldn't spray me and i could throw it out. 8) They lied :o. I can still see them on the ground holding there bellies laughing, Mom didn't find any humor in it, nor did i. ;D Jack

Thanks again everyone.  Glad I could make everyone feel better about themselves :D  I have been busy the last couple of weeks trying to get the students settled in and on the ball.  I can check the board but can't post from school.

   LOL!!!!    Thats FUNNY right there!
I get a skunk in the live trap I have MANY TIMES in the past approached the trap holding up a sheet, and gently lowered the sheet over the trap.. Picked the trap up, put it in the truck and drove away...   A LONG ways away..  Put the trap on the ground, then VERY CAREFULLY rolled it on its top and let the door open as I sprinted to the truck where my rifle lay waiting...
I have NEVER been sprayed doing that, and I have done it more times than I care to count...   It takes a STRONG heart, because the adrenalin pumping into your system when you do it will kill you if your heart is not strong... Needless to say, I have found it easier to just plank the skunk in the trap and not go near it for a week or two...
I once tried submerging the skunk in a pond inside my trap...   the oil/scent from the spray FLOATS.. don't do it!
