Fumagilin Treatment From Youtube

Got my fumigilin in the mail, been reading and youtubing.

What do you think about this method?

this is a spring treatment method for treating with fumagilin.  i am not familiar with the drench and/or spray. but have read some on both methods.

seems a lot less work to feed the bees a syrup pail or jar with fumagillin mixed in.  also, i would be unable to drench my bees with this mixture, it would be too cold in my climate, both for fall and spring months.  the other observation.  this beek is mixing the fumagillin in and it is in clumps, at about 2:10, not sure how effective this would be.

EDIT AND ADD:

i found it best to dissolve the fumagillin in warm water first before i add it to a syrup mixture, so there are no clumps or particles......i have posted the directions for mixing up fumagillin before, will find it, post back.

Thanks Riv, so this whole process feel messy to me, I'm not comfortable with drenching any bees.

Yah, I was planning on a Fall treatment. First time I've treated for nosema, and remember a hive having nasty poops on it this spring.

One thing that I'm not sure of is if I should take off any honey that I want for myself? It wouldn't be much.

When is it too late to give the bees syrup/fum?

And, the recipe from Randy Oliver calls for, 1 gallon of fum/syrup per 1 chamber colony. That's what I have is all 1 chamber colonies. That's easy enough.

I agree with river on this subject.  That seems like a pain. In the video, she's doing a spring treatment, I don't think she is following dosage recommendations and she's running the risk of chilling those bees.  There are other methods that are so much easier unless the apiary is in a remote area?  We don't know her location, so there may be a reason she is doing it that way.  Since the hives are wrapped, I think the location might be a pretty cold one.  Around here, we add fumagilin to our fall feeding.  I have gone to all feeder pails too and I really like them. 
You want to feed your bees while it's still warm enough for them to take it.  Feed them until they quit taking it.  After they cluster, or when it freezes, it will be useless.

    Riv, to clarify: all 4 of my hives do not have a strong honey/pollen arch, there is about an inch or two triangle in the upper corners of the frames. 90-95% of the honey is in the mediums, and they are chaulk full. Each hive has one deep and one medium full of honey.

     If I remove these mediums, what will the bees eat for one month (other than what they bring in on a daily bases) during the fumigilin treatment. It is said in the Randy Oliver link that you posted that it will probably take 2 weeks to 1 month for the bees to consume and store the fum syrup.

     I'm thinking of calling the fumagilin company and getting some advice ~

SoKay    I'm going to go thru my supers and if they are completely plugged, I'll snag one for me. That will leave them 9 full frames each. And I'll probably put on winter patties as well just for safe guard.
