WHO did this!?
« on: October 17, 2014, 11:41:44 am »
I checked my hives right before dark and  noticed the top broodbox  entrance hole was chewed out!  I plan on going out and covering this hole with a piece of wood and my question is ; should I break down the hive this time of year to find the critter(mouse?) or should  I not cause robbing or something and let the girls take care of it! right now the hive is 2 deep broods and 2 medium supers. there 's a light flow going on. the daytime temps. are mid 70's and nite  temps are near 50. thanks in advance! Judy

Sounds like a mouse alright. Just be sure it's out of there before you seal it off.

That's what i would do, the temps are good for a full inspection as well ~ Take a pair of long tongs with you incase you find the culprit  :)

Ditto. Go in and get him out.

Got in the hive with mouse hole and found no mouse or any damage! when I had the hive apart with bees flying crazy; thank heaven for good bee suit; my bird dog  mix decided to come over! had to rush her inside , where hubby scraped her body, gave benedryl and put oatmeal crème over body! she has been stung twice before and just had little bumps. she is beginning to lick and scratch. we'll keep an eye on her!     Hope this won't cause robbing! I put the entrance reducer in till they calm down. whew!

the dog, Drea, is doing great! no side effects. She  won't go near the bees, now. At first she wouldn.t go out for long cause flying bugs sent her running! the poor baby! so glad this ended well and we both will be a little more careful, cautious  now!
