yankee,
my last year's prices on the muth jars:

4 oz ~ 5.75
8 oz ~ 8.50
1 lb ~  15.00

this year i think i  might kick the prices up a little.

i print all my labels on cardstock for these jars and hand cut them as tags to hang from the jar neck. i shrink wrap the cork top on (made for all sizes of these jars), beeswax i might try.  looks cool. for christmas i tie with red or green rafia (stiffer stuff, not the thin strands), and add a strand of very small silver or gold wire ribbon  to tie the tag on with, or the stuff you are using, uhmm, brain fart, and tie it with the wire ribbon.  the wire ribbon adds to the jars. (think i have some pix...will look).

thanks for the link to the tags!

yankee,
the jars, just depends on who has them, shipping charges are crazy on glass. i usually order from b and b honey farms in houston, minnesota, IF they have all the different jars in stock. they have in the past couple years. sometimes they do, sometimes they don't  if not, have to order from blue sky, dadant or mann lake. and sometimes have to order from 2 different suppliers on these.

will go to looking for my muth jar pix and post back.  just want to say though, your jars look great!!!!

I get mine here unless I order more than 100 dollars worth.

If over 100 then I buy from Mann lake and get free shipping.

"I saw muth jars of local honey at the flea market today. 8 oz.  5.00  16 oz. 10.00"

personally iddee, i think they are underselling themselves, maybe.  DEPENDS on the price and shipping they paid for the jars and any labeling, shrink wrap, or as yankee has done with the beeswax seal; and attention to labeling and 'appeal'.  i can't afford to buy these jars, have them shipped to me, to sell them at that price. not worth it.  UNLESS, i just filled them with honey, no label, no sealing......

That is the price I sold my honey for but it was in plastic jars, and the nerve of some who said it was to high a price but bought it anyway, I almost didn't sell it to them. Had a couple of people buy a bottle and come back a day or two later and but 4, 6 and one 12 bottles said it was the best honey they ever tasted.
Had one guy stop buy after I sold all of it and took the sign down and let him have one of my jars of honey, hope I don't regret it and run out.

You all have me scratching my head about muth jars, labels, hanging tags, rafia, wire ribbon, and price.  I'd about decided to move away from the muth jars......Guess I'm in the dark about how to market these giftable items and reconsider the muth jars.  Will try to get smart between now and next year.  Label prices are killing me too.

Thanks for the benefit of your experiences!   :)

We need to see more pictures!

Also, fyi,

This being the 2nd year i've sold them. I sell way more of the small than the large.

So far this year i've sold 120 small and 22 of the large.

I only try to sell these at Holiday season.

Paul Harvey Time........ The rest of the story.

His were filled, corked, and sat out. No seal, no label, no ribbon. If was dark honey. You could not see into the honey. I told him if he had filled them with his lighter honey, ""he did have some"", He could get much more for them.

i think in order to capitalize on these muth jars, you might have to have the market......or create it......?  dress them up to command the price you would want for them. put the shrink wrap on them, or the beeswax seal  as yankee has done. a label tied on with whatever that looks attractive.  i don't sell at a farmers market, i think this would be hard to do to command the price you want?  but maybe not?!  make them stand out from all the others!  some folks just want honey and the container makes no difference, but some will buy something  'different' in a container that appeals to them, especially if you are selling prior to christmas.

i sell a great deal of all these jars but typically targeted, and most of my sales come in fall to christmas season except for the 4oz;
the 4 oz jars; weddings, showers, gifts and christmas gifts
the 8 oz jars gifts and christmas
the 1 lb jars, fall roadside sales, gifts and christmas gifts.

find your 'niche' or market.  like yankee, fall months or going into christmas season brings me the greatest profit on these muth jars.

yankee thanks!  and lee, to make your head scratch more, a jar with gold ribbon and red and green rafia......btw, my labels are made so that i can change the border to red or green during the christmas season:

Nice bottles riverbee.  Where did you get the corks with the stamp "Pure Honey"?  Mine are plain.

thanks bakers, the 4 oz, and i think the 8 oz come stamped that way with the jars, the 1 lb does not.  i primarily get my jars from b and b honey farm.

I like the shrink wrap idea as well. I'm thinking positive for next year's honey harvest. Bee's 'Should' be in good shape after winter, crossing fingers, which will give them a good start on honey making. That is if I'm not running around the neighborhood chasing swarms in my jammies  :bee:
