Luddite?
« on: December 25, 2013, 03:07:35 pm »
My wife won an iPad mini and I had a bit of a play with it. I decided that is something I would rather do without than learn all its bells and whistles and its touchy spots! I think I am running out of space in my personal hard drive and it seems the benefit not worth the aggravation. I see young people playing with their smart phones and gadgets and amazing what they can pull from them; take them away and I dont think some of them could find their belly buttons though! I think our gadgetry is making us terribly dependent not more capable.

You and me both. I appreciate the convenience it offers to those that can take advantage of it, but I am clueless. I sit at hockey games watching the play and half the folks around me in the stands aren't even watching the game, they're to busy texting and whatever on them.
Our neighbours gave us an Apple TV thingamabob that will supposedly allow us to ditch our cable and watch what we want off the internet on our TV. I have no idea how to hook it up or use it. It is in a box that is 4 x 4 x 2 and includes a remote. We watch very little TV because there is really very little on worth watching.

Perry that apple tv will allow you to watch just about ANY movie you can think of. On of my daughters boyfriends brought one in, kind of complicated to use in my opinion (like anything else just takes practice).

Perry, we don't even have a TV anymore. I haven't watched it for 25 years or so barring the few occasions in a waiting room or something where I was a captive audience. I just cant stand the constant idiotic commercials and canned laughter. Much prefer the written word rather than someone else put their facial and postural spin on the information such as it is. Just made to captivate your attention while it exposes you to the commercial message.

Gads, what a humbug, it being christmas and all, Lol! ;D

Technology certainly took a hit in my opinion when, last week at my Father's wake, several people stopped dead in their tracks and in mid sentence every time their cell phones buzzed.  I do have lots of my own gadgets - 3 MDG Mini netbooks, 4 Panasonic Toughbooks, a server, a couple desktops, a laptop, a Blackberry and a couple Internet sticks but there are times to shut them down.

Sorry to hear about your father Dennis. I was at a funeral on Monday and half way through realized I forgot to shut mine off. I seldom use it and was mortified the darn thing would go off.
