Gonna try freezing 1-1 syrup in baggies to feed.

I fed some syrup this fall in plastic baggies, Just cutting slits in the top of bag laid it on top bars and it really worked well.

So now I am thinking I will fill bags while it's cold and lay them in the freezer on their side and let them freeze. Then in spring, take out what I need and lay on top bars, slit tops of bag and done. Lay a bag of syrup and a pollen patty and stand back.

Last year i was constantly fighting rain. Set jar on top of inner cover and here comes the rain. Plus I a had jars everywhere.

All of my inner covers now are reversible so I can feed and put the outer covers back on. When not feeding flip inner cover over.

Good idea, but you will warm up the syrup before shoving it in the hive, yes?

Yea, just let it thaw out. Like on the way to bee yards or take out of freezer that morning so their ready to go when I get off work.

I just know once it warms and they start flying I am going to need all the time I can get in the afternoons and evenings.

May not be as bad as I think, I am just a little anxious about starting spring with this many hives.

If you have the freezer space, this could be a nice time saving device in the spring.  I know a beekeeper that feeds with Ziploc bags.  Is there any chance that the sugar syrup will granulate when it thaws?  I think I would try one bag as an experiment before I filled the freezer.  Also, bear in mind that your bags will need to be dry on the outside or they will freeze together.  You will run the risk of tearing the bags when prying them apart.  I also think I would use good quality name brand bags. They are going to be put to the test.
