Not Good Poop Signs, should I worry yet?
« on: February 13, 2015, 12:56:58 pm »
Joining Lindsay in poop problems. Been watching the front of this hive for about a week. It's not a lot of poop, but the bees are definately trying to get outside quick like...

It's been more wet than usual here this winter, my sticky boards have some water on them as well. You can see that my hives have plenty of ventilation. Screen bottom boards allowing air in and a top entrance.

Minor stuff there Jen. Just keep an eye on things. At this time of year you are always going to see some dirt.

A little bit of bee poop on the front of the hive is not an issue it's bee poop inside the hive that a problem. Only a hive thats got problems will have substantial staining from poop on the inside. Likewise a lot of poop stains on the outside I mean a lot is indicative of a problem a little is normal.

Thanks Barry dear  ;)  And, so far, all my hives smell real good. Yep I sit to the side of them then put my nose right up to the bottom entrance... so far I have left the hives without a bee up my nose and into my brain   :D
