Planted some trees today
« on: April 09, 2015, 07:39:07 pm »
I had ordered some bee bee trees from a guy on "that other forum" and I had stuck them in flower pots until I had a chance to plant them.  I also belong to the Arbor Day Foundation and I had asked for some Linden trees (also called Bass wood trees) and they cam this week.  So I got out today and planted the trees around the property.  My thought was I don't want bee attracting trees close to the house because my wife is allergic and others can be leery of being around bees.  Also, I wanted them away from the hives, because I don't want to attract bees from other places around the hives in case of weakness causing robbing.  And it's my understanding that a pollen or nectar source has to be at least 100 feet from the hive or the bees can't give good directions from the hive to the source.  But, at any rate, I've got 6 trees planted today and it's supposed to start raining tonight or tomorrow, so they'll be watered in good.  I have some more bee bee trees, but I don't know if they're going to grow or not.  Some of them look kind of sad.  But he sent more than I asked for, so I'm happy with the way things are now.  Hopefully, everything will grow and the bees will be happy.

I've got one that I have yet to put in the ground as well. I believe when I read up on them that they are considered a noxious weed or something in some states.
Any pictures I've seen on then have bees covering them.

I recently talked to a local arborist that is also a beekeeper.  I asked him which tree to plant for bees if you could only plant one.  He said Little Leaf Linden.  Good choices Slow.
