For My Texas Friends.......
« on: February 19, 2015, 12:06:42 pm »
A DEA Agent stopped at a ranch in Texas and talked to an old rancher. He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs."
The rancher said, "okay, but don't go into that field over there...", as he pointed out the location.
The DEA Agent verbally exploded and said, "look mister, I have the authority of the federal government with me!" Reaching into his rear back pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. "See this badge?! This badge means I can go wherever I want... On any land! No questions asked, no answers given! Do you understand old man?!"

The rancher kindly nodded, apologized, and went about his chores. Moments later the rancher heard loud screams, he looked up and saw the DEA agent running for his life, being chased by the ranchers big Santa Gertrudis Bull...... With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it was likely that he'd sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified.
The old rancher threw down his tools, ran as fast as he could to the fence, and yelled at the top of his lungs......

"YOUR BADGE! SHOW HIM YOUR BADGE!!!"

I kept some longhorns for a friend of mine last year for several months.  They were exceedingly friendly.  When I carried range cubes in the kubota they would come up and let me pet them.  Most bulls are friendly in these days, as breeders want to keep bulls that pose no threat to their owners.  I just purchased a registered Black Angus bull for $5,200.00.  The fellow that sold him to me stressed how domestic the bull was.  Bulls are generally bought from registered herds and their owners handle them with loving care, and consequently, the bulls are very tame.  Some cattle, bulls and cows, that have been mishandled can get mean and sometimes sneaky mean.  Cattle should be handled with respect, as they are very large, strong animals with the ability to kill and maim quickly.

The bull story is funny, and I can see that happening, but I have test bees and gently as a dog cattle.

When, and if, I have a cow critter that shows any aggressiveness, it goes to the sale barn soon.  I sold a cow to a neighbor, after telling him she was very aggressive when with a young calf.  She put his butt under a feed trough one day after butting his hip.  There was no lasting damage, and he told me, "well you told me so, but she was such a good looking cow that I couldn't pass her up."  He too, soon sold her.

Jack they may be gentle but most folks don't know that, they just see the horns.

I just sold a good 4 yr. old Limousine bull, kept several heifers from him and this years crop will come from him. Didn't want to line breed, and bought another Charolia bull 18 months old, very gentle he walks up to you to get his nose rubbed ;D,. Still yet i never turn my back to one. Jack
