Hubby batted out 6 meds supers for me today, had to veil him up to combat the hot bees. What a nice guy  ;D

   Isnt that considered ABUSE in some states?  Taking a man away from his Honey do list because of another honey do project? Well.. I think he might have a good case if he called the Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau!    :yes:

Hahaha! This time of year it's a pretty good size Honey do list. But I let him wander off of the property to go fishing and wood cutting as often as he wants. Then May - Sept he works for the United States Forest Service for 6 months. I never bother him during those months. Both work and home work are all outdoors where he wants to be. I plenty okay with that  :)

Been thinking about maybe painting the honey supers a little different... this could be very cool  ;D

How far was he working from the hot hive? You mean you can't really go out in the yard without them getting after you?

Go around that corner of the garage and fifty more feet. A couple of days ago I was standing in the back yard near the back of the garage, a bee came around the corner, butt first, at about 50 miles an hours and nailed my cheek. Geeeez!

dang...  Thankfully I have more hives than you do, so its EASY for me to fix bees that aggressive with a gallon of gasoline and a lighter

Yeah, Jen. I thnk if you make a nuc or two from this one hive and let them re-queen themselves, you are likely to have 3 mean hives and not just one. I'm thinking that you ought to get you a new queen for this mother of a mother hive.

just my HO, but there is no need to light up a hive with a gallon of gasoline. maybe, if you had an AHB problem, might be different.

re-queening is the best course of action, not sure i would let them requeen themselves.

Are your other hives in a situation where you could have one of them raise a new queen in a nuc? That might get you a queen faster.

Hmmmm. makin' me think.

My mother hive is stuffed with bees, really good queen. I have it set up now for honey making. I think it will do well, so I don't want to tamper with that one.

My middle hive ies only a deep and medium, a little slower to come around this spring.

Then I have the hot hive.

Why not give this hive a frame of eggs and let them raise a queen?  I see no reason NOT to let them raise a new queen, provided you make them do it with eggs from a queen YOU like, and not their original queen.
   Axe old queen...  wait 4 to 5 days, go through each frame carefully and remove ALL Q Cells. Then swap out one of their frames with a frame of eggs from a good hive..
   I am assuming you have drones there?   Were only a few days away from emerging drones here, so you should have them there.
