Sad Bobcat
« on: March 11, 2015, 03:32:04 pm »
I went on a road trip today to check out a bunch of beekeeping frames that were for sale. When I got out of the van I noticed this sad bobcat. The owner is trying to live trap it, she noticed it when it chased one of her barn cats 3 days earlier. It is in pretty tough shape, probably not long for this world, emaciated, and not moving much. I have only ever seen 2 or 3 of these in my life so I was glad I had my camera.
It's kind of ironic, the hunting community up here wants to include Sundays and make hunting allowable 7 days a week, there is a big push on. They have already got season extensions for bow and powder.
With the winter we are having I would strongly suspect that there will be unusually high winter mortality among deer and even coyotes. They may want to rethink their proposals.
It's at the base of the big tree in the first pic.

What will the owner do when the bobcat is captured? We have a safe haven for wildlife in our area where you can take, or they will capture, the animal and rehabilitate it.

poor thing.

Of course, when you said bobcat I was initially looking for a skid steer in the snow...
I'm starting to think that the bees are keeping me...

Ditto.. I thought Perry was thinking of his wife running the snowblower, and that he was going to give her something BETTER to keep her warm and cozy.....   so my first thought was   Awwwww, what  nice guy!

Oh WaaauuuW! That is exciting that some are getting rescued. I would LOVE to work in a animal rehab facility. Do you know if the cat you photographed has been rescued? Really good article and heart breaking

The one I saw was caught the next day and may well have been the one in the video. It was one of 2 that survived (3 haven't).

Such suffering.  I hope that can bring them back to health and release back into the wild.

We have a bobcat around here.  I hear it at night sometimes.  It has a distinctive sound.

Humans sure are a strange specie!
Poor starving creature, let's help it, so we can turn it loose, so we can sell licenses to kill it.
Just an observation, not an accusation.

LOL Ray.. how true is that?
I came across some fellow and his wife attempting to release a deer from a fence about 7 years ago..   I loaned my pry bar, and he managed to get the hind leg out of the wire..  the deer gimped away as fast as it could go, which WAS pretty fast...   I just shook my head as the fellow and his wife, all smiles watched it go...
BOOM  from the bottom, and their eyes went wide....   I actually had tears in my eyes....

 because I laughed so hard....

Rabbit and other rodents around here keep our bobcats pretty healthy as long as a human doesn't see them, and many of us like them for their hunting ways. I keep my chickens well penned.  Coyotes eat housecats and small dogs regularly, but also tend to the rabbit population, and I've got a red tailed hawk living nearby, I think the cooper's hawk is nesting in one of my trees. Like I said, I keep my chickens well penned and provide cover when I free range them.  That should be small range really.

for all Texans do plenty of shooting, as long as the coyotes stay off our front porches and outside our fences most people recognize them as beneficial.  Animal control says we have bobcats out here, but I have never seen one. They could maybe account for a missing cat or 2.

Hi Gypsi - "Coyotes eat housecats and small dogs regularly,

Now I understand why you have large dogs  :D

I love it when the hawks come in the yard, I just freeze and watch them, like when I spot the queen.
