I was reading a book from Lee Valley about table saw safety.  The front page claims that there  are 10 000 table saw related finger amputations in North America every year.  That's a sobering thought and makes those sawstop setups seem less expensive.   Sounds like it could have been worse, and I hope you heal fast.

Perry, reading your "mis-adventure" put chills up my spine.....and amplified my fear of those power tools.  I hope that it's the last time you suffer a mis-hap and that this one heals quickly and well. 
I assume you will be limited in some of your hive activities for a while.  Maybe it will have a positive benefit and get your son to volunteer to get involved in beekeeping, if only to help his Dad out for a spell.

I feel for you Perry stuck the end of my left index finger into a saw blade years ago left enough skin so they could sow it over so it healed well and with little scar tissue and most of the feeling left in it. The worst part of the healing was 2 weeks after when the body was rejecting the mangled dead damaged tissue and was breaking it down and the pressure the puss was building up. Pollysporin softened the scabs to let the puss escape. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Could have gone in to the story of the spike down throw my thumb Jen It looked worse but was relatively painless.

Hubby instinctively reached for a stick that jammed the chain on the chainsaw, pulled his finger into the chain, yeeeah, meat everywhere. I'm used to it  I think it was the P word that didn't settle well, but I have over come the urge to hurl for the moment

Actually, my thumb is doing really well. I have had almost no pain. About the only complaint I have is that at times the end of my thumb feels like it is frozen cold. If the nail grows out like I think it will, it should cover the majority of the mangled and missing flesh beneath it. It may be a little "pointier" than it used to be but not all that noticeable I think. It could have been much, much worse, and I consider my myself lucky. (if you can imagine a guy losing the tip of his thumb lucky)
