Bee bee trees / Korean Eveada
« on: January 18, 2015, 02:23:48 pm »
Does any one have any experience with Bee bee trees? From what I read the bees really like them and they bloom when other stuff is not.

I ordered some seedlings and seeds from John Yost ( john67x ) off bee masters last year. The check was cashed but I never received any trees or seed and I can't get hold of John now. I'm not sure what happened.

Does any one know someone who sells stratified seed or seedlings?

I ordered some seeds planted them according to the instructions.  (I can't remember if the eveada seeds were the ones I had to put in the refrigerator or not.)  Anyways, I haven't had any luck starting them from seeds.  I want some, but I'll try to find seedlings.

I understand they do require cold treatment unless they have already been stratified.

I had a plant given to me last fall, it is still in a pot in my honey shack. I believe some states consider them a pest plant, but pictures I've seen show bees love 'em, same as Japanese Knot-weed (bamboo).

That's it Jen
I'm not worried about invasive since most of my area is covered in honey locust now.

Since there's a beekeeper's market for it, invasive wouldn't be a worry to me.

Hey, Woody, I have bought bee bee trees from John and have had pretty good luck with them. They're going into their 3rd year and are about 8 feet tall. They haven't bloomed yet. I started 100 seeds and wound up with 1 tree out of the bunch.
I'm really surprised that you are having trouble with John. I've only dealt with him once, but I was well pleased. The response was prompt and the trees showed up quickly and packed well. I've never read of anyone having any issues with him. It would certainly be posted on BeeSource, if it was a common issue. I'm inclined to think that something is wrong with him. Illness, maybe?

I also feel that illness or worse has happened. We talked several times but then it just stopped. I checked on bee masters and his last post was a few days before I was talking to him.

I sent another email today. Perhaps someone will reply.

There is a guy on BeeScource selling small trees right now.  Ge is in California. He is great to deal with.  Prompt service and he sends extra seedlings.

I too ordered from John Yost back in August 2014 and have had no luck in getting $ refunded, trees, or just a response of any sort.  Hopefully my recent efforts will get a response.  I don't think anything dreadful has happened to him from my limited research.   8)

I am also trying to reach John Yost. I received an e-mail from him on January 26, 2015 confirming that he received my PayPal payment and saying that he couldn't ship my seedlings due to bad weather. I haven't heard anything from him since. I have tried a couple of his e-mail addresses and sent PMs on another forum that he's a member of...sure would like to have a couple of BeeBee tree seedlings for the "girls."

I hope you can get your order straightened out or your money back.  I got mine from odfrank on Beesource using the link above.  However, he's posted a new thread about a little trouble he's had, but he should recover and still have some available at a later date.

Good luck and please keep us posted.  :)

Free Advice:  Get your money back NOW...I waited too long to open a case with PayPal.  I have had ZERO luck getting my trees or money back from John Yost.
