Feeding During A Flow
« on: July 13, 2015, 12:20:30 pm »
Need a quick reminder  :-\  One of my hives is going great guns and the flow is on big time, will need to put on another brood med real soon, I only have frames with new foundation. When I add this med, should I feed to help them pull wax?

NOT if you are going to harvest honey. Do you want real honey or sugar honey?

Feed first, harvest honey, eat sugar, or let the bees work and you eat real honey.

That's what I thought.... and that's because the bees have found a good nectar source, so they will step up the beat to pull those empty foundations...

Thanks Mr. Wizard  ;)

If there is a flow on its likely they wont take the syrup.  You mentioned it was a brood medium.  If this is the case and you dont plan on harvesting honey you can feed

what rat said jen, brood medium, new foundation, you can feed. (1:1)  i don't depend on nectar flows to get this done.  it will depend on your nectar flow and like rat said they may ignore it.  if they are not drawing the foundation or they stop because of waining nectar flow, then put the feed on.
