Home from Bee Wellness Seminar
« on: August 24, 2015, 09:10:39 am »
Completed the Bee Wellness Seminar at Cornell University this past weekend.  My head can't hold any more info LOL.  I knew many of the pests and diseases that could impact bees but there were more!!!  Poor creatures, it is a wonder they survive at all. We had five instructors and they were a fount of knowledge.  They put us through our paces when we worked the hives...."why are you doing that, what are you looking for, how would you remedy or correct a problem?"  I learned some new techniques for when I am working my hives too.   But as the old adage goes......ask five beekeeper a question and you will get five different answers LOL!

So glad I participated in this seminar!

Les,glad you had a good time and learned new methods. Reading books is good, Butt doing hands on is by far a better way of learning. in my case anyway. ;D  Jack

What jack said and more. when going thru a hive with a more experienced beekeeper They should be picking up clues buy what they see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste. How the bees act, and react. when they point them out to you and tell you what to look for and pick up on it makes beekeeping much easier.
I bet you gained the equivalence of a few years of experience by taking the weekend seminar.

Wonderful!  What a great experience.  But I thought it was ask five beekeepers the same question and you will get six answers!  :D

It is a wonder they survive. Here in Arizona bees swarm quite a bit and so the need to "remove" them from households and other places is an almost year-round necessity. Bee removal services are nice because they're an eco-friendly alternative to bee extermination. And this adds up quite a bit. Let's say everyone were to get live bee removals and relocations as opposed to extermination... this alone would save hundreds of thousands, even millions of bees every year. Kyle's Bees (www.kylesbees.com) is a good company that made me more aware of this, do check out their website, highly recommended.
