Checking a swarm yard.
« on: September 02, 2015, 07:17:23 pm »
I have a new yard that I have been putting all my late swarms. Some of these may end up being combined. I just put second deeps on most, with a few frames of comb and capped honey to help till I have to make a decision. I'll give them another month.
Nice brood patterns on the new frames though, on plastic foundation no less. Wall to wall. ;D

When do you get your first frost? One that will kill most everything that is still blooming.

Ours is usually very end of Oct to first of Nov.
Bees are bees and do as they please!

We usually get our first frost the first week in October.

I shoulda cropped that out! :D  It's getting to be that time of year so I stopped shaving again. Remember that thread I ran years ago about how much money is saved and how much extra cash one can have by merely stopping shaving? Think of all those bee supplies!

The queen in that hive is something super-special.  From what I could make out, most of the unsealed cells also have larvae in them.  That queen goes around double checking herself to make sure she doesn't waste any cells.

Still envious of the facial hair. I could probably pull a goatee now that it would be grey. Darn the Cherokee blood. No offense Jen.

I know what you mean, dunkel. I shave every 2 weeks, whether I need it or not.  :D

But I'm glad of it. I've always hated to shave.

Also from the Cherokee.
