Extracted Today
« on: September 04, 2015, 06:44:40 pm »
I pulled supers and went through hives yesterday..  I have a LOT of nectar in supers.....   of 30 supers, I had enough capped frames to fill 4...   Not real happy about that, but what do you do? I put he supers with the most nectar on two story hives that needed the third box, with a few left over..  A few I have in the freezer, the rest are being robbed out...
Ted came over to help extract, and to extract some of his OWN honey..  yep, poor fellow was so excited he had a hard time remembering which side of the hot knife to grab onto. He was fairly dancing with excitement, and I wont mention the rap song that went along with said excitement..  He walked away with two to three gallons of honey and I pulled another ten gallons. From here forward were preparing the hives for when it gets COLD... may it be a long time away, and very mild cold when it does arrive...

I might have been inclined to maybe sort through and put some of the heaviest supers with nectar in a warm room with a fan and dehumidifier and left them for a couple days.
As I bring my supers in, the frames that are not ready (90% capped) get sorted out into separate boxes and at the end of my run I may have  6 to 12 supers with unripe honey in them. I have found using the above technique can bring then down from 20% to less than 18%.

Okay.  I give up.  I took some photos, downloaded them to my computer, and now I can't locate them!  So you'll just have to take my word for it, it's the prettiest honey I've ever seen!  And good?  Oh my word!  Lazy even let me run mine last, to get the advantage of the honey "left over" in the extractor, and I'm here to tell you I all but took a spatula to the inside of the extractor when we were done!  I pulled one frame out that still had about a three inch square of capped honey on it and tried to talk him into running the extractor again to get that last little bit!  No dice.  I did however, make off with some of his wax.  Yeah that, and had fun to boot.   Thanks again Scott!  Ted

Perry, I will agree with that... like picking blackberries and building that pie with purple fingers the same day... Best Pie Ever! Same with the labors of honey

Except ... when I get a hold of Vetch or Meadowfoam honey ... I hope there is vetch and meadowfoam honey in heaven..  ;D
