The breeding stocks in Central Europe were nearly destroyed by order of the Nazis, who considered the honey yields not up to modern standards and wanted to "improve" the bee stocks kept in areas under their control.

To me and i'm sure with many others who have dealt with the German Black bees, when i hear there name the first thing that comes to mind is PAIN and MEAN. If they were still around and crossed with the AHB The term Beekeeper would have a different meaning, Jack

My Mentor had German black bees when I started helping him in the late 70's..  I can only say, that the TREND to convert to Italians was a godsend to a 13 year old kid..  I very clearly remember introducing those queens. I also very clearly remember the difference they made as soon as a month later.  We used no veils or gloves, so the difference was immediate and profound.
