turmeric paste
« on: November 15, 2015, 10:39:47 pm »
Well I guess  never posted about turmeric paste on here. After my rotti got mast cell tumors removed last September 11, and looked like dying with swollen lymph nodes in late October, and just got worse and worse in November, I went out in search of anything I could do to treat except chemo.

A member of my shar pei health forum sent me to the turmeric users group. I learned to cook whole (5% or so) organic turmeric into a paste adding coconut oil and freshly ground black pepper and ceylon cinnamon after the heating was finished..   I gave it to Bronx (my rotti) twice a day.  In a week he started bouncing around the house so I started taking it too, about Dec 1st 2014.

Jan 15th 2015 I went in for a blood draw for thyroid testing, they ran a very broad panel including some genetic stuff, and inflammation.  My CRP was 11.9. Fairly high. CRP measures inflammation.

Last week, I got the results from my October 15th blood draw. My thyroid is still not doing well, but my CRP was 2.5.  The only thing I changed was adding turmeric paste.

I don't know that Bronx is going to finish this year out, I have needed to increase his benadryl to cope with the histamine being given off by the mast cell, his stomach is stable with his twice daily acid reducers, and the turmeric had him bouncing when I picked up his leash today, but I think he hurt his "wrist", and pretty badly.  May or may not be cancer related. I will take him in tomorrow.

Still I am so grateful for the year I have had with him, that I would not have had. And yes, it does work. (on my left knee's ache too) I am fairly sure I am a lifer in the turmeric club.

Photo taken Nov 12_2015 as he wanted to dig the worms out from under the igloo. Have a very noisy video too!

nice heartwarming photo of bronx gypsi.....

i know nothing about 'turmeric' gypsi.
with that said i wish bronx a happy long life with little pain and suffering going forward.  hard on us when our beloved critters develop illness/disease etc.......and suffer.  we 'suffer' with them, well i least i do, and i am sure you do as well.

you take care of yourself gypsi, and do what you need to do for the thyroid. hang in there and enjoy bronx!

going for another sonogram this coming week I think, and I probably am deficient in iodine, ordered some stuff that will help boost iodine and selenium level and may help out.

Interesting post Gypsi.  I have been wanting to learn more about turmeric.  My niece makes a paste of turmeric to apply to bee stings.
Sorry to hear about your dog.  It's heartbreaking to watch your buddy slip away slowly.
I have an underactive thyroid which is probably hereditary.  I know in this part of the country thyroid issues are prolific.  It has to be the diet or water.

Bakers:

I have read that women are much more, maybe 10 times more, likely to have thyroid issues than men.  It may be caused by lack of iodine, as our body does not produce iodine.  We must eat iodine in our diet, hence the term Ionized salt.  It is a very treatable malady.  My research stated to eat saltwater fish and shell fish and use ionized salt or sea salt.  Stress may cause the condition to worsen.  (I think that is common with most illnesses)  Anyway, it's common and treatable, so see your doc and get on the cure.

Wishing you well, and another Happy Birthday.

unfortunately I don't like fish and iodized salt isn't enough. I've ordered in some atlantic kelp to get in me somehow, and some brazil nuts for selenium, which your body needs to produce thyroid hormone. I get enough zinc.

Bronx has had 14 months, most dogs with metastasized mast cells get about 5 weeks.

Turmeric paste is amazing my vet, he has never seen anything like it. But we think he may also have something else going on.  Rotts are very prone to bone cancer, and he chews his ankle off and on, will probably need some antibiotics in a few days. no fancy diagnostics, no chemo, I don't have a lot of money.

Either way he is still bounding around the back yard, tug of war with the young dogs, humping one now and then just to show he is king and he rode in the truck with me on Monday and got in and out without his step, (25 gal stock tank, works for a step).  Last dog I lost to cancer I got 3 days to say goodbye, got the dogs off corn and soy a couple of weeks later.  I am enjoying my time with Bronx.  It is a blessing.
