I didn't like the frame jig. I build a dozen at a time with little effort free style. But I do get glue on me. :\'(

I don't think that is a frame jig, it looks more like one to build slatted racks. (I may be wrong, it's happened before). :D

Yes it is to space the slats so they line up with the frames hence end bars

I believe slatted racks would work as well for keeping out intruders like wasps or hornets, apparently the guard bees have more opportunity to defend the opening.

Nice looking work Townson.   I'm going to use a slatted rack on a hive in conjunction with a Cloak board while making a few queens this spring. I'm hoping it will allow a larger population in a smaller box right outside the door to my shop.  I like the  idea of the slatted rack.  Planning to use one on the NUC containing the breeder queen as well, we'll see how it affects finding the queen...   :)

Mikey, I've had them on for a couple years now.  The queens often disappear into the slatted rack, that is a downside.  I overwintered a NUC and there were a lot of bees in the slatted rack this spring when I hived them into an 8 frame box, so, I liked the outcome.  :)
