lol lee, you commuted between cheyenne and laramie? .............. :D

way back, when i was growing up, there was not much any either place, i still have rele's in both places, lot different now.  where did you grow up lee?
I grew up in Cheyenne.  I don't suppose many here realize that drive is over an 8200 ft summit, in winter. I commuted four of seven years to the U of Wyo.

Chip, that is a revealing slide showing the prairie nectar sources.  Amazing how many sources last most of the summer.  :)

Many of the floral sources from about June through the end of summer bloom for long periods.  The early stuff (we call fruit bloom) is generally only available for short periods.

lol!, traveled I 80 many times between cheyenne and laramie, been so long now......... for anyone who travels I 80 between cheyenne and laramie......especially in winter months or whenever a storm hits.......you are in for a drive, just google it!
been on passes in montana in mid july when a snow storm hits (beartooth, or medicine pass..... good examples) you sorta wish you weren't there.
not sure how you managed driving this in winter driving the distance to get to school?...........but then did the same in montana.... when we are younger, i guess we never really ever thought about it?  sure think about it now driving around montana passes in snow storms.  ain't worth it, hotel/motel, call it good.

btw lee, just for fun..... i see it's clear today............. :D :D :D

Riverbee, I was stationed in Great Falls, 1971-75.  Flew helicopters all around Montana.  Grew to love the area.  Grew up in Wyoming, lived in Alaska and many other States, but nowhere has access to the outdoors like Montana.  And yes, I know what it's like to wish I was somewhere else instead of driving in the wind or on ice for 46 miles one way.

To keep to the OP just a little, I'm reading about plants that deter moles, they have taken over in my yard.  Does anyone know a cure for the moles?

Maybe a cat?

My little dachshund (Frank) has been trying to catch a mole in our yard for a year.

After a month of filling in his trenches, I bought several high-priced mole traps I found on the internet.

A month of trying and failing to catch any moles, and the neighbor's cat took pity on us. I opened the garage door one morning to find a dead mole that she'd left for us.

I've quit trying. Frank keeps digging trenches.

I haven't had the heart to tell him he's been out done by the cat.

It is my understanding that moles are present because there are grubs.  Get rid of the grubs and the moles will leave to find food else where.  Locally, there used to be a gardening radio host from the state ag college.  That is what he always said when a caller would ask about mole damage.

Yes, I've read a lot about these pests.  Have used insecticide(s) to no avail.  Even spread a powder with a natural grub killer (and big promises) in it.  There is no shortage of home remedies out there.  We have domesticated and feral cats, even bobcats, in our neighborhood but there are still lots and lots of moles.  Our best success so far has been my son's ability to kill them with a shovel (about ten per year around the house).

An online friend from fornobravo.com, who makes his living getting rid of pests like this, recommends trapping as the only real effective means to rid yourself of moles.  Our sandy soil makes it difficult to set the traps.  :)

It's like politics, there isn't much I can do.... >:(

Our son got another mole today with a shovel.

Have ordered some EZ Flo EZ-Critter-1 Organic Critter Repel that goes through an EZ Flo in-line fertilizer for my sprinkling system.  We'll see how it works.

Haven't had mole problems since I lived in California, nearly 25 years ago!  We had good luck with mole traps.   Had a wiener dog since we moved here and there wasn't anything he thought could outdig him
