Been laid up.
« on: May 23, 2016, 08:50:29 am »
Had Knee surgery on my left knee April 12th. Just getting back to doing little things around the place.
I am here to tell you it wasn't what I was told it was going to be either. One of the problems is the change in the law on opioids in March. so they are not willing to scribe some of the heavy stuff they used to use. So even with what I can take I have still had pain and at first I was ready to have them remove the dam leg. But they tried some thing else so I have been getting by.
Of course Kare was told while I was in recovery it was one awful mess when they got in there with several spurs that had to be removed and lots of other build up so the 1 hour surgery took nearly 2 hours. they use a tourniquet on the leg and that is one of the places I experience lots of pain.
We sold all our bees this spring that made it thru the winter because I was not going to be able to work them. I had planed on having the right knee done in August too.
I am rethinking that right now.
I got the ZT out and mowed the lawn, slow but got it done. Since I was told no digging I have abandoned the raise bed garden for this year since it needs dug up to loosen the soil and I also need to add soil to make up for the settling. Kare took me to a green house Friday and I got two tomato plants, Saturday Kare got me a bag of soil which she loaded on the ZT (no clutch) for me, so I could take it to the back yard and put it in a couple pots and put the plants in it. I have used the string trimmer some but it is hard on the knee, Can not use the little tight area mower as It is to hard for me to push one legged and the self propelled is to fast for me to keep up.

Up side I have been able to search for sounds for my February purchase E caller and up load them to a new SD card.
Have gotten all my rifles and shot guns all clean and shiny. Kare has been great doing all the stuff I normally do. Wood in the furnace, walking the dog and my new pup. fetching me guns and cleaning supply's from the basement up where I can clean them. fixing all my meals even breakfast till I was able to ditch the walker and go to a cane. Makes me tea, keeps track of my meds for me and makes sure I get them on time.

Right now only 6 more PT sessions in town left. I am not sure if they will add more or not. I walked the 400 feet with out the cane out to the road Sunday to get the freebie paper they throw out Saturday nights. That is 800 feet total out and back.

Be glad when I can use the clutch on the tractor again, Drive way is a mess from all the rain we had during the winter and this spring.

Al:

Good to hear from you!  Hang in there, as they say: "old age isn't for sissies."  It seems like you have it going your way, just take care and keep on following the Doc's instructions.  Sorry to hear that you sold the bees, but they can be bought back at a later date.  I'm happy that the pup has worked so well for you.  It looks like a great companion.  Good luck and keep us posted, on your doings.

Your right getting old isn't for sissies.

We decided it was better to sell the few bee colonies we had make it thru the winter because I would not be able to care for them as they should be and we also had it planed to do the right knee in August honey harvest time.
