New split... How long to keep them trapped if miles away...?

I'm sure this is covered a million times...

But we had to split two hives last night.  The "new" hives are about 5-7miles. They have new mates queens in the queen cage. How long do we need to keep them trapped in the supers before letting them free?

If you are over 2 miles do not keep them cooped up at all, they will orient to the new spot right away, no need.

CpnO, do you mean the queen in the queen cages or do you have the entrances closed to the whole hive?  If it's the queens in their cages  that you are referring to, I wait 3-4 days before releasing a new queen to the colony.

Within minutes of you posting your response I untrapped the hives. That's what I thought, but I wasn't certain.

Bakers: I had new queens in their cages, did two splits and took the new hives miles from their original location. In doing that I had also trapped the bees in he give for transport. I hadn't removed the screen traps from the hive as I was unsure if I had to keep them trapped with their new queen in their new location for a period of time.
