open air colony in TN, new one for me!!
« on: June 04, 2016, 08:00:41 pm »
Got a call that there were bees in the hedge. Of course like any beekeep my first thought was a swarm. I always ask them to describe what they are seeing........"big as a football and can see some of the comb"..........what?!?!........comb???.......in the bush??

Yep an open air colony, first one I have ever encountered. Kind of an oddity in my mind.
Raining good today so will trim them out tomorrow.

Bees are bees and do as they please!

These creatures are amazing in their tenacity to survive.  Here is one we took from about 25 feet up.

Well got them cut out of the bush after church and in a hive body before it started raining.
