5/8's wedge nails and wax starter foundation
« on: July 13, 2016, 11:20:57 am »
I bought 2 shallow supers and the frames without foundation and these thin wax sheets to install in the frames.

Can someone tell me how they use the products to produce comb honey please?

How do you use these nails to install the sheets?

Do you use the whole sheet or just little strips up top of the frame?

Thank you!

Do your frames have a wedge top bar? if so remove it and use it to press the wax the other side of the frame using the nails to hold the wedge in place. I would use the full sheet

I'm a little lost?  If you mean remove the top bar it is stapled and glued to the rest of the frame?

I am probably misunderstanding?  Sorry

Oh oh oh ...... I understand.  No but I can take something wedge shaped to compress the wax in the grooves correct?

Then nail it also?

 Top and bottom?

just the top. you can use some melted wax and dribble it along where the wax and frame meet

thats what the forum is all about, answering questions.. the hard part is doing it in a way that a new beekeeper can understand, thankfully our moderators and Admins are pretty good at doing that.

This is one of my own home made wedge top bars...  break off the piece that is barely attached, lay the wax in place, bottom in the groove, top against the side that was NOT removed.. place broken out "wedge" against wax, and nail in place..
I know you figured it out already, just wanted to make it as clear as possible for anyone else reading!!
