Finally, I have a queen!!!!!!!!!!
« on: August 02, 2016, 10:35:42 am »
so a swarm that Perry put me onto had no queen. I put frames of eggs and all ages of brood in twice. Today upon inspection, there were capped brood!!!! I did see that they are getting nectar bound so I added 2 frames of dark brown wax cells and put the nectar ones up into the new deep! wohoo, now lets see how fast that queen can pump them out! :)

Just curious, did you see the queen?

I am fielding a lot of calls from folks who have had hives swarm and they feel that they are now queenless. I am hearing there is no open brood and little capped brood, but I am telling them to hang on. Buying a new queen and throwing her in there is likely a mistake and a waste of money. If the bees are calm there is almost always something in there (virgin) and you just have to be patient.

yes Perry I was getting anxious and had the newspaper with me for a combine if I had too! I did not see the queen, as soon as I saw the evidence I shut it down and put the next box on! :P

Great to hear Michelle, story of my entire summer with my nucs. Had to learn what Perry posted "Hang On!"...and... "Be Patient"

Hard to do when you've been waiting 2 months, but by golly, it paid out  :) 8)

Yup, same thing happened to me and thanks to Perry reminding me to be patient and wait - which was SO difficult - I've now got 2 home-grown queens. Whew!
(I'll keep trying to snatch that pebble  lol )

I'm in a similar situation. My bees swarmed at the end of July. Lost the queen and all but a frame or two of bees. Luckily there were a couple of capped swarmed cells, which produced two new queens. One for a nuc and one for my deep super hive. Not sure how the mating flights went but no eggs yet. It can take up to 21 days for the Queens to start laying, so I still have a few days to go until I'm at that date.

Hope things worked out!
