Where's the drones
« on: August 21, 2016, 05:14:52 pm »
I've gone thru 5 of my hives so far and to my surprise, I've seen no drones. I've only kept bees since 2011 and am no expert but I've never seen them booted this early. Anyone else seen the same thing?

We've got lots of them up here, but I'm a long ways away.
If they need them they'll raise them, so I wouldn't get too worried at this point.

hey Noronajo!!!

good to 'see' you again!

no drones..........not such a bad thing.......... :D :D :D

okay seriously..........no drones......if you have had a nectar/pollen dearth.......primarily pollen dearth, you might not see the drone population, and not that they have already been kicked out.

Riverbee, you are so observant- I don't know how you do it! I lost track of the forum for a bit but will check in more often, I promise. I've really missed you all!
As for the drone shortage- my hives are in 5 different locations within 12-15 miles of my house . I checked them all(12 at this time) and the drones are gone . It got hot and dry a month early here so I'm pretty sure you're correct. The girls all seem happy so whether the drones are just laying low or are indeed gone for the year doesn't seem to be a bad thing!
