Dearth then what ?
« on: August 14, 2016, 02:57:42 pm »
The 2 nucs I  started on May 6 , WBees are in double 10 deeps with 9 frames in 2nd deeps. Added 1 honey super to each after 2nd deeps were fully drawn (June 12) we were going into dearth at that time so bees didn't draw any comb in supers , showed pics  of frames 2 weeks ago everyone said they look perfect. The bees are bearding a lot in this heat sometimes all night , my worry is they are bringing in lots of pollen , I'm worried they'll run out of room for Queen to lay or am I just being a worrywart, and just let them do what they do. I'm still feeding   a  1/2 to1  as was recommended by state insp.
Any advice would be appreciated .

Put a couple frames of foundation in the brood nest. Force them to draw it.

Don't have resources to do that, if I pull frames I've no where to put them.

Are all 10 frames in the top box filled? Either empty drawn comb or foundation would do. Just move 2 down to give her room to lay. If not, quite feeding. The hive is too full

THAT, is why I use all mediums.. drop a couple empty frames down and they get drawn post haste...   Unfortunately I cant give much advice if you use deeps with medium supers...    Put an empty DEEP on top and move a couple empty frames down???    Beware the WEIGHT of a full deep of honey.. if your younger than 30 you can probably handle it, if you are older than that.. call in help!
Last time I did that I called TedH!!!!    Still took all we had!

Mikey,

I am interested in what reply you get on this.  My 2 deeps were packed full, with 8 of the 10 frames fully drawn out and several with capped brood and sveral with honey.  I was totally full of bees and a lot of bearding going on. I added a medium super last week and the bearding has slowed some and I assume they are working the medium out.  I just did this 7 days ago and will probably check in on it in the next several days just to see.
