I said I would use the wax...But would filter it until it looked a bit cleaner.  Once or twice more through paper towels and it would be okay.  You may be more sophisticated in your final filter though.  JMO

Golden Yellow.
It needs more filtering, but looks pretty good.
Candles only. Unless I knew the origin of the wax I would not use it for lip balms or cosmetic purposes. If there is any brood comb present it could be problematic. If anyone is buying wax from me I ask what it is to be used for, and will only sell cappings wax for cosmetic and balm purposes.

Well riverbee, a description taxes the vocabulary to be sure.  It appears to be a pale, mottled, dirty yellow.  Filtering wax is a lot of work, even to get it to that point.

okay, i want to bump this thread up.

this is not a test question or a fishing expedition...........

might be a learning experience for some, i can tell ya there is a story behind it; why i posted the poll and started the thread. i wanted an independant consensus of the members here on your thoughts whether or not you have experience with the color of the beeswax and whether or not you would use this for cosmetic, lip balm or candles......... and was yet another learning experience for me.

i would like to invite all members to participate in the poll, you don't need to make comments......please don't be shy.

i have set the poll so that the results are not seen until a member votes, and your vote is not seen by anyone else except you.   i can change the viewing of the results of the poll at any time, but does not reveal how any member voted, just the general vote.

i am asking for help/thoughts on this, as i said there is a story behind this wax and i will share my experience and thoughts after i have some additional votes/comments.

forgot about my own post..........

here is the story. i was quickly running short of my own wax last fall when candle season rolled around and i did not want to run out. it was a good candle year for me. after the fiddly~fartin' around with my wax adventures with this seller, doh, i was rescued by my local supplier, b & b honey farm (in minnesota). b & b's wax was exceptional.

back to the seller of this wax........and i am posting the pix again so members don't have to scroll back. the wax was described by the seller as cappings wax only. the seller described the wax as:
1. golden yellow
2. light golden yellow, light golden color
3. premium yellow
4. very pretty wax
5. cosmetic grade and chemical free
6. very nice beeswax smell
7. cappings wax, no frame scrapings, no brood comb
8. filtered and ready to go

i also asked about the filtration process........kept neglecting to or avoiding answering the question, only to say that the wax was ready to go for candles
and/or cosmetic purposes.

a marked difference in the thumbnail pix without having to click on them to open in post image.
when i opened the box, the smell? and the look of the bars? brood comb and scrapings mixed in. beeswax smell? absent.
i melted down and filtered a couple of the blocks. there was a great deal of residue,debris  and  from brood comb.
filtered? maybe once, but not 'filtered and ready to go'.

color? if you ask me............it was a very dark brown mustard color, none of the 'yellow' descriptive colors the seller used for description.

i use cappings wax only for candles and lip balm, and no scrapings get thrown in my wax. scrapings are melted separately. i sell in bars. any brood comb i melt down, what there is of it, goes to waxing foundation, or combined with scrapings off frames. (i don't treat my bees unless a problem and i rotate combs out).

this is what my wax typically looks like:

There's a lot of dishonest folks out there, looks like you found one. It's a shame that you can't take folks at their word anymore.
That wax can probably be lightened up if it were run thru a solar wax melter and some paper towels for filters. I understand you wouldn't use it for lip balm or cosmetics but it can be made to look better for other projects.

thank you rc...........true about the dishonesty, amazing to me. i have found a few in my beekeeping travels, weren't happy meeting me............
it is possible to 'bleach' or lighten wax a little more, by running through a solar unit numerous times or leave blocks out in the sun for extended periods of time during summer months. this had brood comb in it.

the wax went back........all 25 lbs of it, and the seller paid for the return.  i don't have time for dishonesty.
