RE: OAV SETTING HIVE ON FIRE

Does everyone using vap. go into bottom brood chamber a week early and scrap all burr comb and propolis from frame bottom slats.
And also wanted to ask if ya use a 3 sided shim on top of hive for OAV wand , would vapors drop down through hive ? 
So terrified of a fire. I don't want to do the bees any harm as i did last yr. by not doing anything but boy wouldn't want to harm them either.

I slowly, so the bees can move aside, slide the oa loaded wand into the 'bottom entrance' until it's in the middle of the frames, tuck a kitchen towel into the entrance around the wand, but not tuck it in heavily, just so the entrance is closed off. Hook up battery for 2 - 2 1/2 mins. Unhook battery and slowly pull the wand out while leaving the towel intact for 10 minutes. Move onto next hive.

Have never had a problem or scare in 5 years. You got this Mikey!

I have marks on my bottom boards from the vaporizer, but have never started a fire.

So does the hot plate not get hot enough to start a fire , i coat the inside of my boxes with melted wax is that a problem.?

We have a huge beehive mill about an hour from where we live. It's located in southern Oregon. They dip their hives and all wooden ware in paraffin before selling and shipping them all over the US. They have been doing this for years. I shop there a lot. There hasn't been any problems with fire from the beeks tha by from them.

As Lee mentioned in another thread the average oxalic acid vaporizer runs between 315 and 370 degrees F, the flashpoint for wood even waxed wood is right around 572 degrees F. So if used properly and not left in too long to overheat I would think no worries, we have seen no issues and yes the bottom of a couple frames are sometimes discolored a bit.
