What an absolute bunch of garbage! The inspection protocol for hives in Ontario headed to New Brunswick was:
- 50% of hives inspected.
- If a hive on a pallet was found to have SHB, the hive was removed from the pallet and the rest was cleared to go. In other words, hives from a yard known to have SHB were allowed into New Brunswick!
The provincial director is disingenuous in my opinion.
"like to see New Brunswick follow Nova Scotia, which banned the import of bees because of the destructive beetles."
Another statement that is not correct! After pressure was put on the Nova Scotia Minister, a decision was made to not allow bees into Nova Scotia from Ontario, instead, the decision was made to allow 500 hives from New Brunswick into Nova Scotia (anyone else see a problem with that?). This despite the fact that there were thousands of local hives that were available but not used.
Sometimes things are black and white, and to try and see them any other way is just plain stupid!
