Still Kicking!
« on: September 26, 2018, 01:38:10 am »
Been a few.  Working night shift at the PD so I am sleeping during the day and if not sleeping, I am hunting artifacts or doing part time construction and of course being a husband and father.  My bees did very well this season.   In fact, a record honey year.  I attribute that to very low swarm numbers from my yard.  I have so much honey that I am building one of those one five gallon bucket wood boxes with the light fixture and dimmer switch to keep my buckets from crystallizing this winter!  Hope all of you are doing well.

Let it crystallize and remelt it when you need it. Keeping it warm for extended lengths of time can damage the honey.

riverbee has posted that she freezes her honey to keep it over the winter.  When she needs a bucket, she puts a bucket heater on it.

dave, what keith said! let it crystallize, remelt when needed. (heat is not good for extended period of time).

like bakers said, i put my 5 gallon honey pails in the garage, they crystallize and freeze. when i need a bucket, i bring it in, and heat it up with a bucket heater.

congrats on the record honey year!
