12 years old...and dating?
« on: February 10, 2014, 07:12:19 pm »
What's going on with kids these days?
My son is 12.
He has gone to 3 middle school dances, and got asked to dance on the first one.  ???
He went to his 3rd one last week (got asked to go by a girl), and when he got home said he now had a girlfriend!  :-\
He just got a call from this girl, and now they're going to a movie tomorrow night!  :o

Now I'd like to tell you he's just taking after his old man  8) but things have changed since I was his age. No girl ever asked me anything, and any I asked out were usually gonna be busy washing their hair!

12 years old, gimme a break!  >:(

Ohhh Perry, I wish I had an answer for ya Dad! It's not the times, it's the AGE. It's always been the AGE.

Even Socrate, referring to very young adults said, "The kids these days! they have no respect, and they don't come home for dinner anymore"

I will tell you this quite bluntly! by the time me and my classmates were in 7th grade... A LOT of making out was going on... FYI

My best advice? A couple of times a month go to Taco Bell... keep your mouth shut and let him talk.

OH! It's gonna be okay   ;) :)

He's going to the movies on a school night?

He must have a VERY lenient dad.

No, just cheap! Clearly I will be driving (and paying no doubt).
Tooney Tuesdays, admission is only a toonie ($2 coin up here).

My son got caught kissing a Sixteen year old when he was thirteen.. Boy was she cute...  I didn't get to say much as Momma bear was busy yelling, and I was FIRMLY told I needed to have a talk with him.. so ... off we went....

   "What is WRONG with you?"
   "Sorry dad."
"You know what you did wrong then?"
   "Yeah."
   "Tell me."
"I was kissing XXX"  (Name deleted humorously)
   "No, want to try again?"
   "I'm confused."
"You got CAUGHT kissing XXX. Next time go in the cornfield or behind the barn. Got it?"

   Momma Bear; (Wife)
   "Did you talk with him?"
    "Yes Dear."
"Good, I bet he doesn't make that mistake again!"
"No, I am SURE he won't......."

Perry, you are scaring me!  :o

Thankfully my 7th grade 13 year old daughter is not "into boys" yet. She is into hanging out with her dad going to Bee Club meetings and today I WILL BE taking her to the movies. My prayer is that when she does decide she is "into boys" that she dates the boys with the values I have been teaching her about and trying to be a living example of. It is scary for me to think about. She is an only child and her mother and I have only one time to try and "get it right." I know it is a huge "crap shoot"  :'(

Don't worry Perry it will be over after Valentine's Day, when all the glamour of the week is gone. And BoilerJim I know your feeling about your daughter, I was the same way and she still worm up with a sorry lazy boy, man now, but I would not give up my 3 granddaughter for anything.

Good advice Kebee-

My best advice raising a daughter, and yes I have one 36 years old:

No matter what she chooses or gets herself into.. Let her know that you will Always Have Her Back! You will always be there to pick her up, and that your arms will always welcome her... without judgment.

Mine is 25..  She drove off into the sunset to get away from her idiot parents at 18.. it took her about two years to realize her parents were not as stupid as she thought, and she came back home with an entirely different attitude..   I was quite glad to be removed from the infernal list of idiots and get my daughter back.

Lazy ""Mine is 25..  She drove off into the sunset to get away from her idiot parents at 18..""

Mine moved out a week before high school graduation. Then she came back for a bit and one afternoon I got the "Ef You Mom"

That's when Ef You Mom moved the rest of her stuff out right then and there.

Her twenties went by, I got on with my life. But she always new she could talk to me or her dad about any subject if she needed to. She's now 36 and we are very good friends and I love spending time with her and her husband and my grands.
