What is this?

I have had this for years and never knew what its original use was. The bodies and friction knolbs are brass, the probes/pointers are steel and the bar they are on is a non-conductive material. No electrical continuity between the brass bodies. Does any one know?

Is there electrical continuity between the brass bodies and the steel spikes?

Yes, just the two units are insulated from each other by the bar they mount on. Loosen the top knobs and they will slide off the bar.

Rough size of the item?
Could you take a photo of the other side as well?
I think I know someone who may know, but need to see both sides...

Thanks, I had thought something similar, but the measuring distance on the bar is so small. Perhaps at one time there were different length bars with them.

Looking on Amazon, there are some available without a bar at all. Easier to ship that way, and you can provide whatever length you need.
