Smartweed crop
« on: July 30, 2024, 09:57:36 am »
I am trying to determine if the Smartweed growing in my neighborhood is the same Smartweed that can produce 100-200 pounds of honey. I seldom see any bees on the smartweed in my yard. It could be that it's too close to the hives. I found an article in the Dec. 21, 2015 Bee Culture magazine by Connie Krochmal. In my mind it only explained why I am confused. It seems that there are about 20 different species of Smartweed in the Great Plains. The species she said could bring in a large amount of honey is found in every state and Canada except Hawaii.
Does anyone get a crop of of Smartweed?
I would post a picture of what is in front of my hives later. We just mowed it all down.
