6 homemade mediums and frames ~ Woot!
« on: March 12, 2014, 06:24:10 pm »
Hubby was questioning this 'bee business' I was getting into three years ago. Especially with $ and all of our casualties. But since he's been living with the bees for these last three years he's really enjoying them. He got a good part of his information from this forum on how to build the boxes, and assemble the wired wax frames. He also made me an awesome bottom board of which I'll be posting soon.
:) 8) Just prime and paint and we're ready!  Oh.... and I'll be doing the wired wax as well. Excited!

What are you going to do for hand holds?

Cleats make wrapping a pain, but still doable..   I think Hubby needs a new Router is what I think.. nothing like a reward for a job well done!   :)
I am interested to see what color she paints them!

That was a consideration about cleats. He's a rather inventive guy, he was thinking cleats that could screw on and off as needed. That man is happy with a cordless drill in his hands  :D

i would leave the cleats on glued and screwed on permanently, the boxes get heavy, as far as wrapping them, yeah like lazy said a pain but phooey girl, so you have wraps with flaps on them where the hand holds are..... :D besides a little better grip for you and your back!

i'm with lazy on what color, COLORS, they will be painted...... :D

smiling slyly ~ I'm not sure yet...  hehhehe...  I know one thing! It won't be Peuce! and it won't be bubble gum.

And it might be.... white with Paul, John, Ringo, and George shadow images. One might have the insignia of Carlos Santana of the girl riding his guitar. One might say Get Rhythm.... and who would That Be? Or, one might say Crazy... and who would That Be!

Perry ""What are you going to do for hand holds?""

It's gonna be tapered cleats, the taper underneath for more grip.

Lazy ""I think Hubby needs a new Router is what I think.. nothing like a reward for a job well done!""

I couldn't agree more! He's the kind of carpenter that uses his tools until they buy the farm. That's why we've been together for 38 years    ;) 8)

She is in north California so the need tor wrapping would be minimal. Nice looking boxes. It is nice to be all ready for spring and the exploding bee population.

I would go with cleats and glue and screw them to the box.  Like River says, "you can cut you insulation."  They are well built out of good material and will be serviceable for many years.

Thirty-eight years is a good start.   :)

I had the following inscribed on my cat's headstone:  "Body Below, Spirit Above."  Put something like that on your first hive.  Maybe "perpetual work area."  "love inside, tough love outside"  Do something special on the first hive.  You're a 60's artist, earn your title.  :)

I would also taper the tops of the cleats away from the hive body to shed water.

I love that idea Lazy! Thanks for giving me the 60's artist title  :)  I loved that era! and I've been awarded some ribbons using the drawing medium.

How about "Make Love Not War" or "Peace Love Dope"....... uhh HOPE"

I think that's it for my first hive "Peace Love Hope"

Then, I can name them individually, Peter, Paul, Mary, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Johnny, Tex, Carlos, Patsy, Puff, Creedance, TDN (three dog night),  Oh Man... I could go on forever here....
