If Bees Die.......
« on: March 15, 2014, 06:16:15 pm »
this photo was sent to me. what a statement, like tefer's avatar of a honey bee with a gas mask on. sorta catches one's attention. i don't necessarily subscribe that einstein made this statement or that it's true but still thought provoking.

If it isn't true, it would be a pretty boring place without them.

I am pretty sure we would adapt, but it would not be pretty.

I have heard on some program that Einstein never said that if the Bees die man will follow within three years. I'm thinking, if the bees die and you can scrape one third of the food on your plate like they say? There are going to be alot of hungry people (more than we already have now) in this old world. Alberts and my birthday was yesterday, different years of course :D They say he couldn't balance a checkbook, i can, but he could do out of this world math??? Jack

How come your birthday isn't listed in upcoming birthdays Jack? You must not have put the date in your profile!

Belated Happy Birthday Jack!

If the honey bees died or we never had them we would not have the type of mono agriculture we have in the world to day cause this type of farming would not be viable.
It comes down to modern beekeeping is responsible for the large mono crop planting, that then required the sprays to keep the crops healthy.
It is our decision to keep this unnatural invasive species that has contributed to the way farming is done around the world.
Can I add I LOVE MY BEES and would not chance a thing. But do remember that we keeping bees is not the solution to all the problems in agriculture, but must share in some of the burden of blame.

Wow, that is quite a leap Apis. This is sort of a chicken or the egg debate methinks. While I agree that beekeepers perhaps share a role in the way modern farms are kept, I don't know that modern beekeeping is responsible for the large mono crop planting.

first off for the really important stuff.... Happy Birthday Jack!

as I have suggest on any number of public forums as far as I know the quote on the picture is quite likely not made by Albert Einstein.  there is a quite similar quote by AO Wilson who is quite well know in his own right but obviously does not have the name recognition of Albert Einstein....  As to whether the statement is EXACTLY correct I would suspect no..... it is without a doubt TOTALLY speculative.

A casual view of natural history might suggest to everyone that eggs are a major biological component of much of life here on earth.... the fish require them, the bugs require them and yes even human life requires the production of eggs.  Any number of these life forms that are derived from eggs without a doubt greatly predate chickens as a life form here on earth.
