That looks like a good one to do an a rainy day with a boom lift. Get up to them and loosely wrap a sheet around them and tape up. Then just cut the whole limb off. You could screw a longer 2 x 4 on top of the limb and let the ends rest on the rails of the lift basket, then make the cut on the limb.

Just a thought, I t might be too heavy for that though.

Zoo has poster pictures of ones the has done off a ladder that we're that high. He has the knowledge, tools, and experience to do the job. I would love to work with him on doing removals. He has gotten more experience in one year on collecting swarms and removing feral colonies that I have gotten in my 30+ years or keeping bees.

I keep looking at this most beautiful hive, and at first I was excited to watch the process of bringing this hive down. I am wondering now.... why can't it be left there on that branch to thrive and prosper?

Do ALL found hives neccessarily HAVE to be caught and hived? Just Curious

Because once little boys know it is their they will start throwing rocks at it and they will run away it will be the innocent in the neighborhood that will suffer from their attaches. Colonies managed by beekeepers are to be requeen if the bees are aggressive and could be becoming Africanized, where a feral colony will not be monitored and eventually if will become Africanzed, aggressive and will attach with little provocation. Un managed the colony will issue swarms. In Florida that could be be over a half dozen a year with prime and cast swarms. To Barry and Zookeeper getting another colony is getting free bees the genetics of the colony and payment for making their neighborhood a little safer. At least in the minds of the people in the neighborhood.

Lol still haven't discussed a fee, but us millionaire beekeepers, are probably going to be expected to do it free. after all we are getting bees. it's about a 70 to 80 mile drive for me, something similar or more for the zookeeper, any extra equipment I'm going to have to buy that I didn't intend to. just trying to figure out how to price it

Apis, it's exactly the same as if they found a colony of Hornets off in a tree, they feel compelled to throw stuff at it, of course if the Hornets tattoo him the Hornet are the bad guys not the dim bulbs that threw the rocks

I know about rocks, bees and kids. an old timer had 2 hives on the roof of his garage and his next door neighbor on the other side was out in his garden and had the bees come over to visit and were a little mad. He looked over to investigate and seen 3 boys throwing rocks and riding of on their bikes. But he knew the parents of one of the boys and that was the last time they disturbed the hives.

the colony has definitely repopulated lol that first picture was probably taken in winter. clearly they have expanded combs and the one pictured gives perspective on how far off the ground they are roughly

after some thinking, I realized there is no way Safe way to approach this colony, if a ladder reaches up to it will just make it, with no safe way to move around on the ladder without risking it sinking in the ground, and no longer being under the branch but free swinging at 40 feet No thank you. so somebody else wants to have a shot at it go for it.

so sorry barry. wouldn't find me up on a ladder at 40 feet......if i had the means for a lift of some type, then i would and know you would.

the saga continues, the owner is thinking about renting a cherry picker, and might be willing to tear a fence down so that the cherry picker can reach the tree I will let him work out the logistics lol.
