Cleaning Up Propolis

I'm priming and painting new mediums, and cleaning up used mediums that are painted white with propolis smudges on them from gloves and whatnot. Mineral spirits doesn't work at all. Acetone, fingernail polish remover, works pretty good. Anyone else have ideas?

I take the opposite approach. I don't paint over the smudges. Or anywhere else for that matter.

Actually I need to paint my sheds this year. Thinking if I have any paint left I might throw it on some hives.

Drink a little of this and the smudges will not bother you. Pick the proper color of yellow-brown to paint the hives in the first place and the propolis and bee poop will not be noticeable.
I'm with Perry scrape off the lumps and paint over it. It is not much different than painting over pitch.

Whatever you do, do not scrap propolis off on your driveway.  My very first season I did that.  3 years later it's still there!  As for the moonshine or everclear add some sugar. apple juice, apple cider, brown sugar and cinnamon sticks and make some apple pie!

jen, household ammonia.  get yourself a small spray bottle and mix a little water with it, spray it on, wipe it off. or just dampen a cloth and wipe it off.
ps. household ammonia also works well to clean off hive tools. i use the yellow stuff.

Love It! So I need to buy some caramel colored paint, ammonia, apple juice, fresh cinnamon sticks! Add the Everclear, stay clear from the driveway. Sounds like a party to me! Your all invited  ;D

yep, rubbing alcohol does work to take it off your hands......and then i will use a little shake or two of baby powder after i am done so my hands don't dry out from the alcohol.
