Yesterday: A Day of Firsts
« on: May 09, 2014, 09:58:25 am »
I experienced several firsts yesterday. Picked up my first nucs, built my first frames, lit my smoker for the first time, donned my makeshift protective equipment for the first time, installed the two nucs into my hives (sting free!) for the first time, and got stung by one of my bees for the first time. You can read every how-to book ever made, but experience is definitely the best teacher. (And experience taught me yesterday to not mess with the bees right before it gets dark!)

I have the same feeling that I had when I got my first chickens fifteen years ago: I may never be bee-less again.

That and I see Saturdays being tied up for awhile.  :)

Congratulations on all of those firsts! There will be many, unexpected more I'm sure. I hope to do my first cut out tomorrow.

Just make sure to take a picture of that first drop of honey when you are extracting for the first time!  ;)

Oh yes, the honey, yummmm.  My favorite way to eat honey besides comb, is in the yard when the summer heat is still in it.  8)

Okay folks, we can add another name to the list of firmly hooked addicts.
Welcome Shinjack, the highs you'll be getting from beekeeping are not only legal but they're beneficial too, any way you look a it.  You've made a good choice and joined a nice crowd.   :)

Blue ""My favorite way to eat honey besides comb, is in the yard when the summer heat is still in it.""

Something magical about that Blue! like standing in the middle of a swarm. I break off a chunk of gooey comb and run around the property looking for hubby to share ~

I think that may be my new forum signature. :) I seriously considered taking a lawn chair and just sitting and watching the bees yesterday. That would probably affirm my wife's concerns about my sanity. This thread is reminding me why WWBK is the best bee forum on the net.
