I could be way off base but I always figured bees at a pound a frame. I've never bought a package but for some reason I thought 3 lbs could cover 3 frames.

I hope someone with package experience will say if that right or not.

Is a pound of workers or a pound of drones heavier?   ;)

Well, drones are bigger but a lb of workers would have more bees. A lb of each might weigh close to the same. ;D

I've actually been thinking of trying to get a frame or two of drone brood or some drones to get some different genetics hanging out at the local DCA.

What would a lb of drones be worth?

It was a trick question.  Like what's heavier?  A pound of feathers or a pound of lead?

That sums it up right there Blue!  :D :D :D

Except.. wait.. Let's see.. scratching head. I gained 40 pounds when I was with child... 10% per pound of bees would be 4 extra pounds for the bees, add on 20 strapping drones, and one pregnant queen.. we would have to know the weight of one million eggs...

well, actually, there should be 3 to 5 million sperm but probably not a million eggs.. I think David Tarpy has some weights of different sized queens........

A pound of bees will cover about 2 deep frames and contain 4000 bees. It also verys with temp and how tight the bees cluster and also if the bees are on drawn comb, or using extra bodies to fill the space between sheets of foundation. or are foundation less.
