my 1st take home bees of the season
« on: May 12, 2014, 11:52:08 pm »
Got a call today for bees on a new home construction site. Was helped out by the contractor on providing the ladder. On the good side I got tipped $20.00 per sting on the down side got $40.00. One to the chin and one to the temple. Gotta get a chin guard sewn on my veil, forgot that about from last year.

Good thing they had the vapour barrier up or that might not have been as easy.
Good job Tim.

Now, on another note, you clearly had a camera to take that picture of the swarm, but none of the stings? How can we be sure they even happened?
(you too Jen)!!!  :D

It's worth a slice of pie from Perry for the photo.  ;D

Good catch! What style of veil do you have?  I where a straw fedora to keep the veil completely away from my face.  I have the Ultra Breeze veil.

The problem with my veil is when I look up it rest against my chin, and for some un known reason the bees find that place at the right time. I where a hat and it keeps the veil from hitting the rest of my face. The one to the temple was 50 feet away from the bees with my veil off.

Did the 1st look thru the hive today. Found the queen and gave her a paint job she was golden like an Italian but smaller then I would think. I put them in eight frames of drawn comb and found her on the 2nd frame in. We have had cooler weather the last couple of days and its probably a solid 3 frames of bees. She has laid really good patterns on the outer frames. I have never seen them go from the outside in? Thoughts on this???

I never thought of charging by the sting. I don't mind getting stung so I could build up quite a hefty bill. Nice catch Was it on the inside of the structure? before the windows or doors were installed?
