It always amasses me how the emerging of 3 frames of bees can take a 4 frame nuc to a full super of bees.
In photo 3 http://postimg.cc/image/7wcpwpv7z/ it shows haw the queen has laid in the cells while the bees haven't finished drawing them out. you can see how far they need to be drawn to attract the queen to lay in them. In the past beekeepers have tried to make foundation that was partially drawn so the queen would lay right away but non have been realty successful.
Nice looking queen, I miss the big fat Italians we use to get from California. Thanks for posting the photos Jen, they can be so educational to all the form members and guests in learning about bees and recognizing that is happening in the hive.

Thanks Apis! I was to tickled when I lifted the lid and saw the hive filled out in just then days, it's time to put on a medium now. This has been a phenomenal learning season for me ~
