1st swarm of this season
« on: May 18, 2014, 08:55:21 pm »
Got my first call today at about 4 PM. Got there and the swarm was just about 5 feet off the ground on a low hanging maple tree limb. Had forgotten my clippers so used my pocket knife and got them down and into a box. While waiting for the scouts to come back I noticed a larger swarm about 35 feet up.  Just to the  right and up another 6 feet or so were two more smaller swarms. The folks were very kind and will allow me to put up a couple swarm traps. Sorry, forgot my camera. Tom

I'm thinking those swarms are from the same bee yard ~ And, most likely more swarms will land on that tree again  ;D

Your right Dave, I need to get my swarm gear better organized...to include the limb choppers and camera LOL. There are a lot of old Maple trees around that city and thus a lot of hollow spots in the trees for honey bees. The home owners said they have seen bees land on their tree before. So based on your post Dave this site will be in my book for next year for sure. I will put a swarm trap in the tree just in case. Tom

Right on! I see more bee in hollow spots in Catalpa Trees than anything else around here.  The second most popular in my observation is a tie between oak and maple.
