I love to watch the orientation flights.  :)  Two of my hives typically have them around the same time, but they are further apart than yours.

Hey Beer  :) I love watching them as well. And, I love watching swarms (well not 10 of them), I think they are magical.

It's been raining here every day for over a week.  I'll bet when the sun comes out my girls will be dancing around the hives too.   In my mind I hear them shouting "wheeeee" as they spiral up and back.
My advice: worth price charged :)

We had a cold snap for about 10 days, hives were quiet. It has reached 75-80 these last two days. Boy! the girls are happy! There's this certain time of day, as the picture tells, around 4pm when the sun is behind them, I can just sit and stare at them speeding back and forth ~

Wheeeeeee  :D

Hi Jen!
Whats the story who forgot to paint the super above the hand cleat? Love seeing and listening to all the activity in front of a hive in the afternoon.
Nice picture Thanks

Hi back to you  :)  During my swarming event, hubby was putting out deeps and mediums as fast as he could, and we were waiting on frames and supers to come in the mail, or picking them up down south. I was right behind him trying to get them painted and ready. But alas, the bees were swarming faster than the paint was drying. So we grabbed what was available at the time.

In the late evenings, I'm in the process right now was washing down my hives, cleaning them up from the winter and spring flurry, and also touching up with paint.

I like the one on the far right. Has a Welcome Banner out at the base. Can't make out the pictures on them, but reminds me of the warm welcome feeling of the lanterns in a camp ground... :D

Aren't those cute! They are tiny tibetan prayer flags. As these flags blow in the wind, tiny pieces of threads break loose and blow away in the wind sending prayers all over the world. And thru it all, my bees have held together ~  :)

I'm glad other hives are doing this same thing right around 4. It's amazing to see all the bees heading in every direction at the speed of sound...(almost)

Garden - "Silly me I should have recognized them from My LAST ascent up Mount Everest.....
NEVER"

Well Garden, I was born and raised at the base of Mt.Shasta,CA. People and groups come from all over the world to climb this beautiful mountain. But not me, I get just as much enjoyment out of standing back and admiring her from a distance  :)

Beautiful photo. It's nice when the bees are working. We got an inch of rain on Sunday so mine are finding something to work...Hope it lasts. Doubt I'll get honey

Gypsi- I'll be surprised if I get honey this year, my hives are recovering from a swarming episode. Good thing you guys are getting rain, rain produces blooms. Here in Cali we are dry dry dry, predicted heavy drought until the cows come home. I'm still feeding, might be all summer.
