This was a big cut out, brick outside wall, so we had to remove from inside.

We started at the very bottom and worked our way to the top. 1 section at a time. Took us about 3 hours to get it all done.

We removed the paneling in one piece without much damage, so they can put it right back up

No on the queen. or, I don't know.

It was disappointing, they had swarmed, no capped brood, no larvae and no eggs. We did find 3 capped queen cells so maybe there is hope. Would love to get the genetics.

If no eggs or brood how are there queen cells? Could be an unmated virgin in the hive and the cells the bees may of resealed the cap on the cells.

Don't be discouraged just yet.

I did a cut out last month and there was not any brood to speak of, definitely no eggs and a bunch of torn up queen cells. Never did see the queen. It was in a rock covered column on a porch, after removing all of the combs and bees I took a water hose and washed all of the honey out to clean up the mess. After loading everything back in the truck I took one last look and who do you think was standing in the sunshine drying off all by her lonesome, a new little queen. Not sure if she had been on any mating flights yet or not but she is doing good now.

If you have an old piece of brood comb you might try sticking it in the tree to lure her out (if she is still in there).
