That can make your eyes water. Although the amount you sting yourself It probably is not that bad. I got 2 on the left nostril with in an 1/2 hour 2 weeks back and no reaction after the first 10 second pain was gone.

So I blew the Y pipe out of my Dually today, and then lost the clutch on the way home..  Get a call canceling a job I had to re schedule other jobs to fit in for a friend... not so sure were still friends after I let go with both barrels...   Couple days ago I ran over the wifes little boat with the tractor when the steering locked up, so took it to the shop to look at it..( The tractor, boat is toast)  found the issue, but its gonna be EXPENSIVE to fix...  then had to run and save Pa when he had a flat tire on the side of the highway... get home, make my rum and coke, sit down to read...   and find myself laughing, the troubles of the day forgotten... Thanks!!!!  I really needed that!

Getting stung there doesn't sound like any fun at all.  I was so tempted to take a quick peek in one of the hives today, but I thought of your post and decided that wouldn't be the best thing.  I didn't want to take the time to suit up today, so I will have to do it after work tomorrow.

Dang, Jen. I feel your pain. I took one to the nostril a couple of weeks ago when one of the girls managed to find a way inside my veil. My heart tends to race a little when I have one or two girls flying around INSIDE my suit/veil. Taking one on the nostril brought tears to my eyes. OUCH!!

Jim- The first and second sting to the right nostril kept my eyes watering for about an hour. The other 4 are better cause I'm so alerted to the bees and my poor nose now. The craziest thing is that they keep heading for my right nostril! Every Time! Seems my schnoz is a homing site now  :D

LOL   once the bees are inside, mr veil is no longer your friend!
I have seen people PANIC whern a bee got inside their veil...   ripping it off in a frantic frenzy.. to be stung half a dozen times AFTER they got it off...   I prefer the imminent sting inside over the dozen waiting outside  ;D   Have not had a bee in my veil since I got the ultra breeze.. always nice to be able to stand calmly among the angry bees while every one else runs for cover....
hehe, just dont tell the wife I said that....

I can take a sting anywhere on my head, and have...  even the eyelids, it's not that big of a deal, but the nostril is a whole other event. So when a bee gets into my veil, I just stay quiet and plug my nose thru the veil, slowly walk away and gently remove the veil ~

reading scott's reply reminds me of ed's signature (intheswamp)

Life's mystery...which side of the veil is she on?............ :D

we have a neighbor that helps me out or helped me out especially moving hives or taking supers off, not so much anymore. he didn't want coveralls or full gear, just the tie down hat and veil.  sometimes he would wear gloves, for the most part he didn't, hot, sweaty, didn't care for them.....and he was never stung under that veil or going without gloves.  he just loved the bees and really enjoyed helping me.

several years ago, he came as always to help me pull supers off.  we weren't standing too far from the hives, and i went to the back of my jeep to get the veil he always wore, and a pair of gloves for him.....i was going make him wear lots of coverage that day.....perhaps i jinxed him.....

i heard him swear, and i mean swear.......(navy seabee)i turned to look, and a bee or two nailed him on the nose, and inside the nose.  just zinged him.  didn't even have the veil on yet.  so there i was trying to tell him to scrape the stingers out, and him dancing around manly and all.  i managed to get the stinger out of the top of his shnoz but, okay nevermind about the one on the INSIDE of his nose.  oh glory be.  i gave him benadryl and tried to send him home. he wouldn't go, stayed and put the veil on and we took all the supers off.

why the fuss?......his daughter's wedding was the next afternoon........you know, wedding pictures, etc.......and his wife didn't want him coming down to help me for this reason..... :D

we were part of the wedding entourage, and the phone call i received from his wife when he went home........what could i say?

he wasn't allergic, but he did suffer quite a large local reaction to his nose, big red golfball looking thing, and his cheeks to his eyes.....photographers can do wondrous things with photographs to a certain extent but not photographs taken by friends and family..... :D

i will never forget. we had been honored and asked to ferry their daughter and her husband to be, down the river in a canoe a short distance, to waiting family/friends and the minister that married them on the banks of the river.......and there was our great friend, standing in an awesome tux, his arm around his wife, just beaming with a red oversized golf ball on his nose and his eyes nearly shut..... :D
it took his wife sometime to forgive me....
